“Viaje” is a snapshot of musical styles from around the world. Each track takes you to a different location. I’ve been fortunate to have lived, traveled, and worked in many countries." Viaje"; which means travel/voyage; represents the musical styles I experienced during this voyage
“Viaje” features music influences from Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, and the U.S.A. The songs used range from CCM, R&B, Smooth Jazz, Son, and traditional South American songs. Each song is wielded by a group of musicians and producers that worked to give that special touch needed for that style.
“Before I Let Go” is a Frankie Beverly cover that I’ve always loved. It was produced and recorded by Samuel Hernandez in Cauremare, Venezuela. Samuel is an incredibly talented musician/producer. The track features Arturo Cabrera on guitar and Elias Tona on Bass. Arturo captured the essence of the Maze guitar sound, but added his latin flavor on the solos. Elias did an incredible job in turning this track around in all directions to what I call "Latin Funk".
Alegria was written/produced by Samuel Hernadez. The word means happiness and joy. We really enjoyed recording this one! It has that ala Chick Corea “Return to Forever” feel. We recorded in Caracas, Venezuela. This track features Arturo on guitar, Samuel Hernandez on keys, and Elias Tona on Bass.
“That’s The Way of the World” EWF’s cover was produced in the U.S. by Shelton Parson. Shelton maxed on this arrangement by making it fresh. In addition to featuring Shelton’s producing and playing skills, it features him as soloist. He also brought in Roy Parson to the session to add the main ingredient we needed to make it soulful.
“Grasshopper” is a Jeff Lorber tune. However, this version will surprise you. We recorded it in San Luis,Venezuela. The tune was great before we recorded it. But when Samuel and Arturo put their hands to it, the song went to another direction. Finally, Elias Tona added his signature latin funk feel and “turned it out”!
Tu Eres Mi Respirar is a moving spiritual written and recorded by Marie Barnett. Produced by Samuel Hernandez and recorded both in Caracas, Venezuela and the U.S. The track features Sylvia Braxton on vocals. Sylvia did a remarkable job in matching her unique vocal style with this tune. This will be the favorite of the project. The graceful arrangement and singing will really put you at ease and in a spiritual presence.
Other key tracks include “I Hope You Dance” a slow ballad featuring Reggie’s smooth sax lines with background vocal. “And The Beat Goes On”, recorded in Queretaro Mexico, is an ol’ school, toe tapping jam done by the Whispers. It features nice saxes, horn lines and jamming fun.” I Like the Way You Move” was done in a true smooth jazz style. You thought you had heard it all… well this ones different. Both “Ayer” and “Mi Tierra” have typical Cuban son styles influences. These are traditional vocal songs recorded on this project in an instrumental setting. The musicians on these 2 recording were just awesome. There are so many ways to clap your hands and tap your feet in this style music.
